Usui Reiki: The Secret to Sustainable, Long Term Health

Nick SaraevWriter

Usui Reiki is a Japanese form of holistic healing. It was founded by Mikao Usui, who in the late 1800s studied various forms of Buddhism in Japan and abroad. Once he had finished his studies, he blended the principles of traditional Japanese medical techniques, such as acupressure and acupuncture, with Buddhist meditation to create what eventually became known as Usui Reiki.

In essence, Usui Reiki is an energy therapy that balances the body's natural healing energies by unblocking any negative emotions or chakras that may be causing illness. It has been practiced for centuries in Japan and is considered to be one of the most potent holistic healing techniques in existence today.

How to Perform Usui Reiki on Yourself

Usui Reiki can be performed by oneself or with a partner. To perform it on oneself, one should sit in a comfortable position and close their eyes. One hand should be placed on the body where you wish to work on yourself, while the other hand is used to generate an energy flow from your hands and into your body.

This may feel like warmth, tingling, or pins and needles - but not pain! As this sensation is felt, you or whomever you are performing Usui Reiki on will be generating this energy themselves, and it should not leave the hands. This sensation will gradually decrease as it flows into the body, and the person can stop when they no longer feel it in their hands or arms - at this point, it is said to be over.

Benefits of Usui Reiki

The benefits of Usui Reiki are numerous. In the first place, it's a highly effective means of stress relief. When you're feeling stressed out, anxious, or angry, Usui Reiki can calm you down and bring your body back to normalcy in a way that other methods of self-treatment cannot. Additionally, it is an excellent way to deal with physical pain and discomfort. Many people experience significant relief from chronic pain and discomfort after just one treatment.

Ibolya Kramar, now a Reiki practitioner, saw a significant improvement in his chronic pain after his first treatment. "I noticed that I could walk more easily and with less pain just an hour or two after my session," he said. "It was completely unexpected."

Usui Reiki and the Chakras

Usui Reiki is designed to heal a person on an energetic, emotional, mental, and spiritual level. This healing process begins when the practitioner holds their hands over the client’s body in a series of hand positions called “subtle energy positions,” which are meant to balance or clear specific chakras.

It is important that practitioners do not touch the clients but maintain a gap of about an inch between their hands and the client's body. The practitioner is then said to be "releasing" the energy of the chakras through their hands, which are a conduit to transfer this energy from one person to another.

As the practitioner moves their hands over different parts of the client’s body, they are also regulating what type of energy is being released. This is because chakras can be referred to as vortexes that attract specific types of energy.

Frequency of Usui Reiki

Generally, we recommend that the person practices this at least twice a day for 20-30 minutes, ideally before going to bed at night and after waking up. With more consistent practise, the person can gradually extend the time to an hour or two in length.

As with any health treatment, Usui Reiki can be hard on the body if it is not practiced consistently. It's important to listen to your body and only practise as long as you feel comfortable.
